Public servants should be remunerated based on the jobs that they perform and not the organisations where they work, remarked Dr Joe Abah, Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, recently while contributing to the discussion on pay discrepancies in the Public Service at the Federal Ministry of Finance forum for Reform Directors in the Ministry and its Parastatals.
He added that Parastatals, as delivery agents of government services, are better funded and are closer to the people. Citing the Customs and Federal Inland Revenue Service as examples of Parastatals, he said they should reform their operational modalities to make them function properly and deliver tangible services to the nation.
