The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, yesterday affirmed that the new moon had been sighted and urged all Muslim in Nigeria to commence fasting today, June 6.

The Sultan, while speaking in his palace in Sokoto, noted that the new Moon of Ramadan, 1437 AH, was sighted in many states of the federation as confirmed by the National Moon Sighting Committee

"Today, 29th Day of Shaaban, 1437 AH, equivalent to June 5, 2016, therefore, marks the end of Shaaban. Therefore, tomorrow, June 6, 2016, is equivalent to the 1st of Ramadan,1437 AH," he said. (Leadership)
