The Federal Government has launched the newly re-designed BPSR with a freedom of information portal designed to receive FOI requests (www.bpsr.gov.ng).

Director General of Bureau for Public Service Reforms (BPSR), Dr Joe Abah, during the launch in Abuja today, said the innovative website is the first of its kind by any public institution in Nigeria under the FOI Act in order to promote openness and facilitate public access to information and documents held by the institution.

“We are proud to be the first government agency in Nigeria to have an electronic platform for receiving Freedom of Information requests,” he said.

Abah explained that the initiative was supported by the Mac Arthur foundation as part of an on- going partnership geared towards utilising information technology for information disclosure, both proactively as well as demand.

While ‎handing over the redesigned website to BPSR, Right to Know (R2K)’s Coordinator, Ene Nwankpa, said BPSR as the major government institution drives reforms among public institutions in Nigeria has demonstrated an exemplary and bold approach.

He further added that nothing negative occurs when a public institution opens up its operations to public access and scrutiny.
