Tough time awaits Corrupt Public Officials as FG sets up national prosecution team..

Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Abubakar Malami.

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Alhaji Abubakar Malami (SAN), on Tuesday, said the Federal Government had set up a complete national prosecution team to ensure an effective and efficient prosecution of criminal matters in the country.

The AGF, who disclosed this when the Bring Back Our Girls Movement visited him in his office in Abuja, said the prosecution team comprised all stakeholders in the criminal justice system. The team, the AGF said, would be responsible for carrying out effective investigation and preparation of relevant charges in accordance with the law of the land without compromise.

Malami told the Bring Back Our Girls Movement that government was worried with the way the past administration handled the prosecution of alleged corrupt public officers and added that government "will preview previous cases and bring to book cases that were compromised in previous prosecution and those involved in the compromise will be brought to book."

Commenting also on the public officers who are being prosecuted over their alleged involvement in the arms purchase scam, Malami said the Federal Government would do everything possible to ensure that those involved in the scandal are prosecuted in the interest of the public.

He said no plea-bargain would be entertained, saying that "I, personally look at plea-bargain with disdain. I object personally to plea-bargain, particularly as it relates to terrorism and financial crimes."
