SMAT-P Introduced to Equip Nigerian Civil Servants.

The Head of Civil Service of the Federation in Nigeria, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, has said that a Structured Mandatory Assessment-Based Training Programme (SMAT-P) has been put in place, Nigeria’s Leadership Newspaper reports.
The Programme has been put in place to equip civil servants with the basic skills and knowledge they need to carry out their duties.
Kifasi, who was appointed as head of the civil service in August 2014 by former President Goodluck Jonathan, spoke yesterday at an interactive session with civil servants in commemoration of the Civil Service Day celebration in Abuja.
He said that the office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation has identified the need to build the capacity of the civil service across the board.
According to Kifasi, the SMAT-P has been developed in partnership with reputable international training organisations and world-class experts.
Kifasi said, “The curriculum and training material for the scheme have been fully developed in partnership with the Management Development Institutes, both local and international training experts. The OHCSF is currently receiving nominations from MDAs for the commencement of the programme in July 2015.”
He added context to an earlier circular issuing restrictions on foreign training and travel by public servants, “Specifically, the circular stated that most training activities should now take place in Nigeria and that attendance at the foreign events should now be at no cost to government.
The effect of the circular is that there has been a drastic reduction [in] the number of requests for permission to travel abroad.”
The announcement comes after reports in Abuja's Premium Times that Federal Civil Servants are to undergo compulsory screening to re-validate their credentials and service records.
