The Police Ports Authority Command and the Inland Waterways Formations were merged to pave the way for the establishment of a Maritime Police Command. The Command is charged with the responsibility for maintaining law and order and providing adequate security in the nation’s port and harbours. It is also charged with the task of tackling contemporary security challenges such as armed robbers, piracy, kidnapping, gunrunning, and other related crimes in Nigeria’s creeks, harbours, and territorial waterways.
