The Federal Government has called on Nigerians to patronize made in Nigeria goods rather than completely depending on foreign made products.
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, , Winifred Oyo-Ita, made the call in Abuja when the Group Managing Director of OMATEK, Dr. Florence Omatule Seriki, visited her in her office.
Oyo-Ita said government will do everything possible to sensitize Nigerians on the need to look inward and begin to have a change of attitude towards depending wholly on foreign goods rather than encouraging the growth of our local industries and locally made products.
Oyo-Ita observed that most foreign products that Nigerians buy today are of lower quality than those our local industries produce.
She said her office was ready to partner with OMATEK for the full automation of the Federal Civil Service, particularly in the area of records keeping, prompt and effective service delivery to Nigerians as well as capacity building to enhance the skills of workers.
Earlier, Seriki had said her purpose of visiting the Head of Service was to seek for relevant areas of collaboration with her office with the view to improving efficiency of the service for optimum performance.
Seriki said OMATEK had during the former President Olusegun Obasanjo administration entered into such partnership with government, which made it possible for civil servants to own their laptops.
She said this helped most civil servants improve their skills in terms of information communication Technology.
She expressed confidence that civil servants would perform optimally if the present administration will explore possible ways to equip civil servants with relevant skills and materials especially in this era of ICT. (THE EAGLE)
